Te Mania Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 2014
Not keen on the squint-inducing acidity, cat's pee, grass clippings and armpit sweat you've found in some southern sauvignons? New Zealand's sunshine capital produces gentle, fruit-driven wines full of character. Te Mania's sauvignon has a rush of ripe apple, basil, lime and passionfruit followed by zesty acidity, pretty, mineral-edged notes and gum-tingling length of flavour.

Black Estate 'Home' Waipara Chardonnay 2014
This should have the words "one helluva" before "Waipara chardonnay" - because it's stonkingly good. Super-juicy flavours of yellow plum, grapefruit sorbet, peach gelato and hints of coconutty, lemony sweetness. It's fresh and tangy up front, followed by a layer of creamy, cashew-like characters cloaked in cinnamon-toast notes. Superb drinking now, but if you can keep a couple of bottles for a couple of years you'll be rewarded.

Nevis Bluff Central Otago Pinot Noir 2010
Just 1.5kg of fruit was allowed to ripen on the vine before being hand harvested and sorted, fermented gently and aged for 10 months in French oak barrels and then bottled, back in February 2011 - all under the careful eye of winemaker Dean Shaw. Vibrant, lengthy and lovely.
