Jackson Estate Gum Emperor Marlborough Pinot Noir 2011
Their flagship pinot might be named after the furry, native Australian moths that make their home in the eucalypts on the edge of the vineyard, but this gorgeous wine is every sip a Kiwi classic. With spiced cherry intensity, sweet, baked strawberry and redcurrant notes interlaced with ribbons of plum and black tea, this is a gentle, juicy and rather magical Marlborough mouthful.

Soho Valentina Waiheke Island Syrah 2014
Saturated with colour in the bottle, it's also dark, pretty and glossy in the glass and bursts with black forest berries and chocolate flavours. There's a sniff of glorious, green peppercorn and violet in this little wild child from Waiheke winemaker James Rowan.

Big Bunch Hawkes Bay Merlot 2013
John Kemble is back on the winemaking scene after a five-year hiatus. Big Bunch wines are crafted from Hawkes Bay fruit, harvested in the monster 2013 vintage, and bottled with labels designed by Dick Frizzell. This spicy pepper and cocoa-coated wine is bold and buxom, vibrant and tangy and boosted by solid tannins and a dollop of liquorice and prune on the finish. Nice.
