A nicely curated indie arts festival, Chromacon is a celebration of visual arts - illustrators, comic artists, designers, animators and video game developers. The two day show includes demonstrations, panel discussions and trade stands - inspiration for all ages.

The people can reclaim Queens Wharf after that summer of cruise ships, with the free Block Party art and music festival. Check out live bands, living art, exhibitions, workshops, installations, breakdancing battles, artisan and vintage handmade markets, scrumptious food and surprises.

Teenage movie star
When's the last time you had a chance to go to a drive in movie? The lovely folks at Smales Farm are opening up the area for a nostalgic blast. Complete with food (surely popcorn), entertainment and activities. The kids get The Lego Movie (3pm), adults get drive-in classic Grease (8pm). No car? You can watch it on a deck chair or a beanbag up the front.
The sweetest 'love yer dog' show, Kumeu's Scruffs Dog Show has 15 events for happy hounds, including Best Dressed, Owner Lookalike, Hairiest, even the Ultimate 'Westie' Dog. Proceeds to Humanity Working Dogs.
Your last chance at the big swims of the summer, the final King of the Bays Ocean Swim. There are four distances for all ages and abilities from the 2.8km swim from Milford to Takapuna to the State OceanKids' swim for primary schoolers.
