The annual 2degrees Kapa Haka Super 12s are the centrepiece of Matariki as 12 performers battle it out for 12 minutes for the $12,000 prize. The combination of high energy traditional kapa haka with contemporary entertainment is eye popping. Make a day of it with the all-day market of Maori kai and crafts.

3. Musical gifts
The APO Open Orchestra concert will feature school children from the orchestra's Sistema Aotearoa programme where students from South Auckland perform onstage, alongside the talents of New Zealand Music Awards winner Mark Vanilau and others. Kids get to walk through the orchestra and check out the instruments.
