We've handpicked five things to do around Auckland this weekend.
1: Art attack
The annual Artweek Auckland brings together the city's vast visual artists under one big umbrella of over 100 events and exhibitions, cycle tours, artist talks and guided walks in 10 neighbourhoods - from galleries, artist run spaces and pop up venues. This weekend's special treats include Parnell and Ponsonby by cycle (Saturday 9am, 1pm), or a pleasant pedal around Devonport (Sunday 12pm). There are also a variety of K Rd tours, as well as a very special tour of the McCahon House art collection (Saturday 1pm).
We don't need much convincing to take a gorgeous trip to Waiheke for their annual Oyster Festival: fresh beasts from the pristine waters of Te Matuku Bay, with impressive cuisine from top chefs, matched with the finest wines and craft beers and live music. Tickets are limited, so check availability on the website.
Pets and their serving people can both attend the Auckland Pet and Animal Expo full of products, services, demonstration and entertainment for all creatures great and small - expect to see dogs, cats, birds, rats, reptiles, rabbits and ponies all under one roof.
Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm. ASB Showground.
4: Basketcases
The Skycity Breakers are ready to take on the Townsville Crocs, and you can be sure they'll be using their home advantage to good effect. As well as the game, there'll be plenty of entertainment and performances during the breaks making for a great sporting afternoon. Plenty of fun and excitement for all ages.
Pretend you're in Japan when you celebrate the pink beauties of the Cornwall Park Cherry Blossom Sundays. There's music from the North Shore Concert Band, bee talks and fun with unicycling Roro.
Vege gardeners though, should head to Kelmarna Gardens' first spring festival, with food from Orphan's Kitchen, Miller's Coffee and Little Bird, workshops on bees, foraging, kids' entertainment and more.
