No plans for the long weekend yet? We've handpicked the top five things to do around Auckland.
Pomp up the volume
The aptly named Queens Wharf is brimming with activities and entertainment all Queen's Birthday weekend with British-style markets, plus all the quirky traditional maypole, highland and morris dancing, puppet shows, music and plenty of classic seaside games, carnival fare rides, high teas and more. Petrol heads will love the red London buses and classic cars.
Details: Today, tomorrow and Monday 10am-5pm. Queens Wharf.
Finally the FIFA Under 20s World Cup has rolled into town. Head to QBE Stadium at North Harbour for the opening ceremony and first game (New Zealand v Ukraine), find a team you'd love to support and while you're there, check out some great eats around the region.
Details: Today, from 11.45am. QBE North Harbour Stadium.
Having a ball: part two
New Zealand Opera's staging of La Cenerentola, Rossini's story of Cinderella is happy, and pretty and just what you need if Big Opera feels a bit scary. Set in Victorian splendour, there are lavish costumes, wicked ugly sisters and of course, the prince in all his charms - with a twist of tyrannical, no fairy godmothers, and a silver bangle, not a glass slipper.
Details: Tonight and until June 7. ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre.
Tell me a tale
Auckland Museum has delved into its treasures to share tales of Auckland in it's big Taku Tamaki show. From meteorites to munchies (a cute 80s dairy) you'll love remembering your favourite stuff and learning new (an elephant on Mount Eden? Who knew?).
Head north to the Hibiscus Hospice art exhibition and sale with over 300 works by over 70 artists including paintings, ceramics, prints, photography, glassware and jewellery. Or take the ferry to Waiheke to the studios of the island's wonderful artists, join workshops or join the Sunday Soiree and silent auction.
