Powerful images and poignant moments in news around the world are captured in the annual World Press Photo exhibition. The contest whittles down nearly 98,000 images from 5700 photographers around the world to gather tell us the stories of the year. (Some images are disturbing, so it's R13).

The Game of Rhones wins the prize for Best Named Wine Event, celebrating the grapes of the Rhone Valley, classics like shiraz, grenache, and viognier. Twenty of the country's best producers showing over 80 wines to (plus food from Bird on a Wire and Good George Brewing). Draw swords, take pictures, win prizes.

One of the prettiest small towns within driving distance of the city, the feisty burg of Coromandel has its second annual Illume Festival of Light Night. There's lights, there's a parade, street parties: one day we're sure it will rival Sydney's Vivid. See swags of cleverly lit up floats, lanterns, lasers, projections, lights and shadows, and the sounds of The Rocking Roller Coasters.
