It's bad news for all those dashing rogues out there.
When searching for a man, women put kindness above looks, a survey has shown. It found kind men are more attractive to the opposite sex than those who are better looking but not altruistic.
Those who put others before themselves were considered better for long-term relationships. Men rated good looking and who were also kind became even more attractive, the study found.
Researchers at the University of Worcester showed 200 women 24 pictures of men, half rated attractive and the rest unattractive.
They were given stories about the men, showing their character. The study, in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, said: "Altruism acts as an important trait in mate choice."
