A lightsaber, a box of 7 per cent bourbons, a medical certificate and someone's final assignment were all left behind by Kiwi Uber passengers last year.

These were the more "unique" items left behind - the usual suspects; phones, wallets and keys made up the top three lost items respectively.

Uber's second annual lost and found index provides a snapshot of riders' most commonly lost and most surprising forgotten items in New Zealand.

The index features findings about the most fascinating forgotten items, as well as the days of the week and times of the year Uber riders tend to report their items as lost.

Friday and Saturday evenings can be dubbed "the forgetful hours" for users of the ridesharing app, and Saturday is the most common day of the week to report lost items.

Although the list of most common items left behind is rounded off by predictable items such as clothing, eye wear, IDs, cigarettes, laptops and jewellery, the most unique items paint a more curious picture of passengers' lives.

New Zealand's own Jedi would have been distressed to learn of the misplacement of his laser sword, and a sleep-deprivedstudent would have had some explaining to do after realising their final assignment was still tripping around the city.

An Auckland mother may have ruined her daughter's big day by leaving her birthday present in a departing vehicle, and many enthusiastic event goers would have had a surprise at the venue entrance when they realised their race, rugby or concert tickets were no longer in their possession.
