The acclaimed New Zealand film Whale Rider celebrated its release in Australia with a special premiere at Sydney's Fox Studios last night.
Keisha Castle-Hughes, who plays the lead of Pai, and Rawiri Paratene were among cast present, while among celebrities invited to a cocktail party before the film screening were film director Jane Campion, Richard Wilkins and Harry M Miller.
Eleven Maori artists performed at the party.
Whale Rider, directed by Niki Caro and adapted from the award-winning novel of the same name by Witi Ihimaera, has won prizes at the Toronto, Sundance and Rotterdam film festivals.
