We can see from these ingredients that the taco shells are made from cornmeal, some sunflower oil, water and salt, which is as it should be. The emulsifier which helps keep the texture right is natural soy lecithin and the antioxidants are ascorbyl palmitate (304) which means it is derived from palm oil so you might want to avoid this if you're palm oil free. The other antioxidant is tocopherols (306) these are natural fat soluble antioxidants also known as vitamin E.
Taco spice mix
Sugar, maize flour, salt, garlic (8%), paprika, cumin (7%), tomato (6%), onion powder, food acid (330), oregano, chilli powder, anti-caking agent (551), paprika extract, ground bay leaves. Sugar is the main ingredient here but you'll get only 1.2g per serve. The rest of the ingredients are herbs and spices with the addition of citric acid (330) and the anti-caking agent silicon dioxide (551) - silica.
Mild taco sauce
Water, tomato (13%), capsicum, onion (6%), modified corn starch (1422), salt, sugar, paprika, food acid (330), chilli powder, garlic powder.
Nothing too much to worry about in here. The food acid is citric acid (330) and the modified corn starch is acetylated distarch adipate (1422)
My recommendations
As a meal kit this is a great choice. You do have to add 500g of mince and some vegetables and cheese but there's nothing artificial in here or any unnecessary additives. And the advantage of serving tacos to your family is that they are more likely to eat more vegetables in the form of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, avocados and even corn if you encourage them to put them in their tacos. These do contain a palm oil derivative though, so that may put some people off.
Once you've made the tacos you'll get 16.7g protein, 9.5g fat, 2.3g sugar, 419mg of sodium and 2.5g of dietary fibre, which adds up to a good, healthy meal in my book.
