UPDATE - Lord of the Rings co-producer Fran Walsh last night won a Grammy for best song written for a motion picture, television or other visual media. She shared the award with Annie Lennox and Howard Shore.
The song, Into the West, from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, was inspired by the death of Cameron Duncan, the promising young Auckland film-maker.
The song also won an Oscar for original score last year.
Walsh was not at the ceremony. As co-writer and co-producer of King Kong, she is required for filming in Wellington.
Shore also won a Grammy for best soundtrack score for a film, television or other visual media category for The Return of the King.
Kiwi band Steriogram, nominated in the best music video category, lost out to U2. New Zealand composer Alan Broadbent, nominated in the best jazz instrumental solo, dipped out to Herbie Hancock.
