By COLIN DOWLAND
Weevil's fall had been his own stupid fault. Up on the Top Shelf, he and his brothers had been playing rugby with a grain of rice. It was getting dark and his parents had called them in for supper. He knew it would be crackers for supper yet again and he was bored with them.Weevil took no notice of his parents' calls. He kicked the ball high into the air and chased after it as fast as his tiny legs could go. In the dim light, he had not seen the edge of the Top Shelf coming towards him. He ran on without thinking and before he knew it, he had stepped out into dark, empty space. With a weevily scream, he fell. His legs grabbed wildly at the air. Down and down and down he went, landing in the bowl of sugar with a soft thud.
