The kitchen cupboard was dark. The lids were tight upon the jam jars and the cornflake box was sealed up for the night. Not a munch or a crunch could be heard.
In the kitchen drawers not a single spoon stirred. The kitchen clock struck midnight.Weevil K. Neevil woke with a jolt.
He was lying on the Bottom Shelf of the cupboard with only blackness all around him. For a moment he thought he was dead.
He stretched out his feelers and checked his shell with two of his six feet. There were no cracks. Not even a scratch or a dent.
It couldn't be true. He had survived the horrific fall. He was alive!
Standing up onto all six feet, he felt something soft beneath him. One nibble told him what a lucky beetle he had been.
His parents had always warned him that too much sugar was bad for his health. But it had just saved his life. He had landed right in the middle of the sugar bowl.
