Set a budget first
According to Pyman, many couples miss this essential step, and with apps and online trackers available, budgeting is easier than ever.
"Whilst setting that budget can prove to be a tricky exercise, taking the time to establish what you can realistically afford will help you make choices when it comes to identifying venues to view (that you can afford!) as well as sourcing your suppliers," Pyamn notes.
Timing is everything
"More and more couples are choosing to get married on a weekday or selecting a date that's outside of the traditional summer wedding season," Pyman told the Daily Mail.
"Venues offer hefty discounts on non-peak dates, so if you aren't worried about hosting a Saturday summer wedding, it might be that your dream venue becomes a more affordable option."
Even if you do go for a Saturday afternoon in summer, there is no guarantee the weather will ever play ball.
Consider dry-hire
Dry-hire venues allow you to create your day in a blank space, e.g. a barn or great piece of land, and most importantly they allow you to choose your own suppliers.
It can be more work, but according to Pyman, it can be well worth it for your pocket:
"Whilst there's certainly more work involved in creating this style of wedding (you'll probably need to hire everything from the loos right through to the lighting), having control of which suppliers you use can help you carefully manage costs."
Toss traditional
It's 2019, and the idea that every wedding has to be the same boring old thing simply isn't the case anymore.
If you want a relaxed beach BBQ, with no favours and an 8pm ceremony, go for it, says Pyman.
"Don't think about what usually happens, think about what you both want to happen and keep that vision in the front of your minds at all times."
Call in favours
If Uncle Stan has a collection of cool vintage cars, or you have a pal who is a keen baker, now is the time to call in the favours.
Maybe it's simply some cupcakes and brownies for the dessert station, or even just a fancy cake stand you can borrow. Having access to someone with these skills can create a personal touch and save you lots.
"Similarly, if you have somebody crafty in the family, get them to help with producing decorations and signage. Once you start to put the feelers out, you'll be amazed at what skills your loved ones can bring to the table, so take advantage," adds Pyman.
Hire a wedding planner
According to Pyman, hiring a wedding planner can save you plenty in the long run.
A good professional planner will have their own list of contacts who should offer their services at a discounted rate - given planners offer lots of return business.
However be sure to choose one with a great reputation, not just someone who claims to have the right credentials but doesn't know their De la Renta from their Decjuba.
