KEY POINTS:
Office temp Wendy Stewart has never owned a pair of fishnet stockings - but that could change after a style appraisal from British TV style gurus Trinny and Susannah.
The Torbay 47-year-old was one of hundreds of women who packed in to Westfield Albany yesterday as the hosts of What Not to Wear started a six-stop tour of shopping centres that finishes tomorrow.
Ms Stewart - an "hourglass" - got up on stage and was praised for her green V-neck top.
"They said, 'You should be flashing your boobs more and wearing fishnet stockings', and I went, 'Oh my God'," Ms Stewart said.
Trinny and Susannah revealed tips for a variety of body shapes.
Pear-shaped women should wear elaborate tops to draw the eye up, and "cornets" - an athletic build, with broad shoulders similar to movie star Cameron Diaz's - should create curves with skirts that flick out.
Even MC Kerre Woodham didn't escape scrutiny. The radio host and columnist had a couple of inches chopped off her hair after the pair called it "frizzy", and ditched shoes with straps that had been "clasping around her not-so-delicate ankles".
For Melitta Swanepoel, a 34-year-old nurse of Albany, Trinny and Susannah's combination of frankness and praise made having her skirt lifted and her behind scrutinised bearable.
"I didn't love having my skirt lifted up, but it was kept private," she said.
"I was thinking, 'I wish I'd put a better pair of undies on'."
Ms Swanepoel praised the Britons for making women feel good about themselves.
