Their season is over early, but New Zealand Warriors put on happy faces at Fashion Week yesterday.
Sidestepping the harsh Mt Smart Stadium critics and a woeful second-to-last place, the NRL team's photogenic trio of Shaun Johnson, Kevin Locke and Feleti Mateo sauntered down the runway at the Les Mills Show, to screams of delight from a mainly female audience. A key drawcard to the half-filled show, the novice models were saved for last as they stepped out together down the runway.
Always the showmen, the trio posed for cameras, including executing a mock try with Locke suspended mid-air by his teammates.
When asked if it was symbolic of all the tries he hadn't scored this season, he replied: "Ouch. I'm not talking to you any more."
But he added he wouldn't be looking to swap the catwalk for the rugby field. "I can definitely say I am not thinking of giving up playing for the Warriors," Locke said. "I just enjoy putting on a bit of a show wherever I am." Fashion Week wraps up at the Viaduct Events Centre today.
