Vincent Ward is back at the helm of the film River Queen after being asked to direct post production of the movie in London.
Cinematographer Alun Bollinger had replaced Vincent Ward in November as director of the film, set in the Wanganui hinterland during the New Zealand Wars.
Even though Ward was unable to finish the last few weeks of principal photography, the production team maintained contact with Vincent and sustained his vision during this time, Silver Screen Films/The Film Consortium said in a statement.
Ward developed the story and co-wrote the screenplay, which tells of a young woman's search to find her kidnapped son during the height of the wars between colonial troops and Maori.
The film stars Samantha Morton, Kiefer Sutherland, Stephen Rea, Cliff Curtis, Temuera Morrison and Anton Lesser.
Filming of the Anglo-New Zealand co-production finished at the end of November and the film is expected to be completed by the end of March 2005.
