There were queues out the door at the Auckland Performing Arts Centre this morning, as hundreds of wannabe New Zealand Idols line up for their shot at the big time.
Auditions have already taken place in Christchurch and will be held in Wellington next.
Some of those lining up still had not made a final decision about what they'd be singing for the judges.
Contestants who spoke to Newstalk ZB had chosen everything from songs from the Disney movie The Lion King or Natasha Bedingfield songs to Stevie Wonder compositions.
Several in the crowd this morning say this is their second crack at becoming the next Idol.
When asked why they had decided to have a go, some contestants said they just wanted the experience, other said they wanted a crack at the $50,000 prize, and one said he would do anything to get out of Putaruru.
