Big mistake with Twitter cheat expose. Photo / Twitter
There's nothing quite like the world of Twitter getting behind you.
But what happens when social media users turn detective — and get it totally wrong?
That's what happened to Twitter user Saint Keny who has gone massively viral after she spotted a photo of what appeared to be her boyfriend with another woman.
It all started innocently enough. A woman posted a racy selfie of her hugging a very ripped man, his identity protected by a strategically placed love heart eyes emoji positioned over his head.
"Men with this physique really do something to me," the tweet read.
However she hadn't taken into account the distinctive tattoos across his chest and upper arms and was quickly contacted by another woman, news.com.au reported.
"This is my current boyfriend … When was this picture taken?" she asked, calling on the original poster to provide her "receipts".
She also added she'd be able to identify him just one of his fingers in the snap.
What unfolded next was a full-blown investigation, with Twitter users donning their detective caps to try to uncover if the man in question was a "cheater".
When one zoomed in on the magazines stacked on a shelf behind and matched it to a cover dated February 2019, the Twitter world swung its axe.
"He would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for Twitter," one person wrote.
"That's what is referred to as a well worn train track," another said.
"Damn, that's some detective work right there," a stunned user declared.
But that's not where the viral expose thread — which has had more than 83,000 retweets and 320,000 likes — ends.
After being slammed on the social media platform for his alleged philanderous ways, Saint Keny decided to address the claims, revealing it wasn't an open and shut case.
"Just for the record this man never cheated on me. We've only been dating for 2 months. And only got serious in the last two weeks," she wrote.
She also shared a snap of her cuddling up to him while on a boat, adding she blamed herself for the social media storm as she "antagonised" the situation.
The revelation has shocked many, with people calling the CSI turn of events "ridiculous" and "savage".
