With some dates still left to play, U2's Vertigo tour is easily the top-grossing concert tour of the year. The Irish band brought in upwards of US$260 million ($381 million) from more than three million concertgoers.
As for the rest of the top 10, it's mostly about ageing white rockers. The Eagles put together one of the biggest tours in the band's history. They took in almost $170 million from 77 shows.
Neil Diamond also posted some career-milestone numbers: $103 million and attendance of more than one million. Rod Stewart grossed nearly $71 million; Elton John raked in more than $65 million from touring dates and an additional $44 million from his residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The rest of the best are Jimmy Buffett ($59 million), Kenny Chesney ($91 million), Green Day, ($53 million), Toby Keith ($46 million), Rascal Flatts ($37.7 million) and the Dave Matthews Band ($65 million).
