Denzel Washington fronts this excellent remake of the 1962 thriller that starred Frank Sinatra. It's about Sergeant Raymond Shaw (Liev Schreiber), a war hero who saved his fellow soldiers just as his commanding officer, Captain Ben Marco (Washington), was knocked unconscious. Shaw eventually becomes a vice-presidential nominee, while Marco begins to suspect the events never happened. (2004)

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

A little low-budget compared to its sequel (and prequel), but bolstered by gripping performances from Jodie Foster as FBI agent Clarice Starling and Anthony Hopkins as the incarcerated psychopath and former psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter. He's icky when he does that tongue thing. (1991)
