Other New Zealanders expected include Shrek co-director Andrew Adamson and actor Martin Henderson. After the meal Neil Finn will perform with other musicians.
The rest of the evening will be a time for getting together and promoting New Zealand.
New Zealand Film Investment manager Paul Voigt says the dinner marks 25 years of modern film making in New Zealand and is a prelude to the 74th Academy Awards.
New Zealand is in the running for 14 Academy Awards, counting Russell Crowe's nomination for best actor in A Beautiful Mind.
The other 13 are all nominations for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring.
Only two films, Titanic and All About Eve, have been nominated for 14 awards, and until now, The Piano was the most successful New Zealand film, with three nominations.
In the build up to the Oscars, The Lord of the Rings has already won seven major awards, including five Baftas and best film at the American Film Institute. It has also won several critics' awards.
Mr Voigt says New Zealand is now becoming recognised for its films and the exclusive dinner is attracting big attention.
"It looks like it is going to be the event the media is taking interest in, in America. They are intrigued New Zealand scooped 13 nominations."
The dinner was not only a chance to acknowledge local talent, but an opportunity to promote New Zealand as an ideal location for film makers.
"A number of the people we are inviting are considering New Zealand for future film making and television shows," said Mr Voigt.
The awards will be live on Sky TV on Monday afternoon and later that night on TV3.
