KEY POINTS:
Genetic engineering, terrorism and wood chopping all come under the microscope at New Zealand's only trans-Tasman short film festival this weekend.
The Jameson Show Me Shorts Film Festival will screen at Auckland's Academy Cinema throughout the weekend, featuring 10 world premieres.
Of the 50 films on show, 18 are the creative machinations of local film-makers.
Films have been grouped together into themed sessions, ranging from The Fantastical through to Love and Loss.
Highlights include the multi-award winning film, The Mechanicals, and Wobbegong, which will screen at Cannes next year.
As well as celebrating the art of film, the festival will award $5,000 to the best film, as judged by director Taika Waititi, critic Kate Rodger, cinematographer Mairi Gunn and film distributor Michael Eldred.
Tickets are $12 and available from the Academy Cinema, or by phoning (09) 373 2761.
