This Hawke's Bay pinot gris is a stand-out with its toasty aromas and rich yeasty flavours. Great value at less than $20.

3. Kim Crawford Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc $14.99

An all-round goodie with its intense bubbles, freshness and granny smith apple flavours. This is my pick of New Zealand's sparkling savvies.

4. Gancia Asti $18.99

This intensely aromatic, low-alcohol Italian fizz is the ultimate New Year's Day breakfast wine.

5. 2010 Spy Valley Echelon Marlborough Methode Traditionnelle Brut $34

A stunning Marlborough fizz with fresh, citrusy chardonnay-esque flavours married to pinot noir's full body.

6. 2012 Porters Cuvee Zoe $52

Wairarapa winemaker John Porter aged this blend of pinot noir and chardonnay in old barrels before bottle-fermenting it to a super fresh, citrus-on-speed tasting bubbly. An awesome sparkling wine, made in tiny quantities, it's well worth the search.
