HEAD IN THE CLOUDS
* *
Charlize Theron, Penelope Cruz and Stuart Townsend star in a romantic drama set at the start of World War II, about lovers who choose between their hedonistic partying lifestyle and joining the fight against fascism. Suffers from corny dialogue and high levels of melodrama, but just the ticket for Mills and Boon fans, who should make sure a box of tissues is handy. (2004)

FINAL DESTINATION
* * *
Kids jump out of a plane after a young man predicts disaster. Sure enough, the plane blows up but you can't cheat death, it seems. An unseen force stalks each of the survivors, leading to an assortment of perils. One of the freshest ideas to come along in the horror genre in decades, it also brings a sense of humour along for the ride. The movie came originally fom the concept for an abandoned X-Files television script. The characters in the film are named after directors or stars of classic horror movies, including Lon Chaney, Tod Browning and Val Lewton. (2000)
