Toby Keith's hit As Good As I Once Was won country song of the year, and Country Music Hall of Famer Merle Haggard was honoured as an icon during the BMI Music Awards.
Keith also shared BMI's songwriter of the year prize with Vicky McGehee and Ed Hill, as the performing rights organisation Broadcast Music Inc. handed out the awards on the weekend.
