Adidas' shell-toe shoe turns 35 this year. Time certainly flies. It seems like only yesterday that the adidas Superstar sneaker, created by Adi Dassler, was just a shoe worn on a basketball court. A few years later and it was being worn by more than 75 per cent of all NBA players. Then, in 1986, Run DMC's tribute recording My adidas meant it really had become an icon.
To celebrate, the shoemaker has brought out 35 limited-edition special models featuring the music, city and expression series. K Rd store MAW has the expression Superstars series, inspired by artists. There's the Andy Warhol, Captain Tsubasa, Lee Quinones, Project Playground, Disney, Upper Playground and adicolour. MAW's Madeleine Richards is partial to the adicolour version, and says: "It's a really cool idea. It comes as a plain white sneaker but with a set of pens and you draw on it yourself."
$269 from MAW and selected outlets.
