Aigantighe Art Gallery in Timaru is the South Island's third-largest art museum. It holds New Zealand, Pacific, Asian and European art works dating from the 16th century, plus a sculpture garden, which is always open, and children can visit Tane the Tuatara every Friday between noon and 1 pm. Aigantighe runs school holiday art competitions and, until August 20, the gallery will host Artarama, a festival of South Canterbury student art. Admission is free.
