It's an awkward situation to say the least which is why this TikTok star was left mortified when her quest for love took an unexpected turn.
Brooke Averick, 24, who has more than 60,000 followers, was with her family in Haverford, Pennsylvania when she received a Hinge notification that her "most compatible" match was updated.
She opened the dating app with anticipation to see who this potential boyfriend could be, but to her shock, it was her brother, Noah, who was sitting next to her in the room.
Brooke detailed the dating app fail in a hilarious TikTok video which has since clocked more than 2.4 million views.
"And here is he is and the fact of the matter is, this is my brother and it's for that reason that we will be suing Hinge," she joked.
Noah can then be seen pretending to kiss his sister as she laughs while yelling at him to stop.
The clip attracted thousands of comments from social media users both shocked and entertained by the mishap.
"Hinge knew it's a pandemic and you gotta stick to the household to be safe," one person joked.
"I was like 'wow they look alike' and then I was like 'oh'," a second person wrote.
"This is the TikTok of the century," added a third, while others shared their dating app horrors.
"Hinge did this to me with my ex-boyfriend and I retired from Hinge immediately," one woman wrote.
"Ex-husband for me. So awesome," another responded.
Brooke, who is a preschool teacher, told heyalma.com that her rise to fame on TikTok has come from sharing embarrassing anecdotes about herself.
"The first video I ever posted was me reading a letter that I'd written to myself, just because. And it got like 1000 views, which to me is kind of whatever, but at the time, I was like, I … am a celebrity?" she told the online publication.
