TOUCH OF PINK

Alim (Jimi Mistri) is a gay Indian, raised in Canada and now living a free-wheeling London lifestyle. He is forced to confront homophobia from his own family when his mother, a devout Muslim, pays a visit. Kyle MacLachlan also stars as Alim's make-believe friend, Cary Grant. The premise may sound cliched, but there are enough twists to keep it interesting. (2004)

THE MISSING
Herald rating: * * *
Cate Blanchett plays a rancher living in 19th-century New Mexico with her two daughters. Her father (Tommy Lee Jones), absent since her childhood, comes to make amends just as one of the daughters is kidnapped by rogue Apaches. She turns to him for help in tracking the captives. All the dressings of a blockbuster: great locations, cinematography, epic soundtrack, top-notch actors but director Ron Howard somehow misses the mark. (2003)
