BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY
Herald rating: * * * *
Based on the best-selling book by Helen Fielding, Renee Zellweger stars as 30-something Bridget, a single woman who decides to improve her life, chronicling the efforts in a diary. Though she's trying to be good, she's feeling guilty about drinking, smoking, her figure, and worst of all, sleeping with her cad of a boss (played by Hugh Grant). While it's not a rehash of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, it does nod to it, especially with the casting of Colin Firth as romantic interest Mr Darcy. (2001)
