Movember brings male health issues into focus. Here's where to go for advice:
1. menshealthweek.co.nz
Men's Health Week may have been and gone (in June, if you missed it) but for the other 51 weeks you can still jump on their website and complete the survey. The higher the score, the more you need to get yourself to a GP for a full health check. The site also links to some helpful health services and gives men plenty of sobering facts to prompt self-care.
2. nz.movember.com
You'd have to be under a rock if you hadn't noticed all the dudes rocking a moustache for Movember. Having fun for a serious cause: two of the biggest issues for blokes: prostate cancer and mental health. Register or support a Mo Bro or Mo Sista to raise funds and awareness, check the health for life section for health tips, information and links to help.
3. you.org.nz
The not-for-profit Men's Health Trust wants to change the way men think about their health, encouraging them to visit their doctors and take responsibility for living healthy lives. New Zealand men die from 3000 preventable deaths every year caused by smoking, obesity and diabetes, alcohol and driving, mental health issues and suicide, cancers and heart attacks. The hard-hitting site has links to more than 20 health websites and the "how are you" workplace health programme.
