Foods such as quinoa, chia seeds, avocados and chickpeas can all contribute to your weight loss efforts.
Participants in the study had their hormone levels measured to check for hunger and fullness after consuming foods heavy in polyunsaturated fats.
Subjects were then asked to indicate how much they thought they could eat, or how hungry they still were.
The study found those who consumed more polyunsaturated fats were less hungry and felt fuller for longer.
"Appetite hormones play an important role in regulating how much we eat," Jamie A. Cooper, PhD of the University of Georgia told Metro.
"These findings tell us that eating foods rich in PUFAs [polyunsaturated fats], like those found in walnuts, may favourably change appetite hormones so that we can feel fuller for longer."
So there is no need to shy away from these Instagram-worthy foods as research shows they are actually doing you a world of good.
