Fashion and theatre collided on the second day of New Zealand Fashion Week, with evening productions from Trelise Cooper and jewellery label Kagi.
Kagi presented the first jewellery show at Fashion Week to an amused and entertained crowd, using the catwalk as a stage. A theatrical burlesque show presented jewellery on dancers performing an interpretation of artistic director and filmmaker Morag Brownlie's show Birds of Paradise.
"We wanted to bring the jewellery to life, and we thought the runway was the best medium to do that," said designer Kat Gee. "We wanted to put life behind the jewellery. It was fun, frisky and glamorous."
The cast of dancers, wearing costumes inspired by birds and, says Gee, "dripping in jewellery", included Julie van Renen, Georgie Goater, Seonaide Lyons, James Crompton, Mike Holland and Vivio Ramos. Singer Caitlin Smith opened the show, while a humorous David Attenborough figure narrated.
"We've taken a risk, and it's about having fun," said Gee, "At the end of the day, fashion's got to be fun."
