He was the same age as Abbi, and was staying with his cousins for the Christmas holidays. He was a city boy, smaller and skinnier than Justin, and he wasn't used to snowy weather like this. He shivered in the cold wind, and huddled into his coat to keep warm.

Justin and Abbi looked at him and shrugged their shoulders.

"Polar, stop pulling!" ordered Abbi as the energetic puppy jumped and snapped at snowflakes.

"Polar, behave!" Abbi said and gave the lead a sharp tug. It parted from the collar and the puppy was free. He bounded away across the snowy farmyard.

"Polar!" shouted Abbi. "Come here!"

The furry, white puppy ignored her. He raced out of the farmyard and onto the open moor. In seconds he had vanished into the swirling snow.
