"Polar!" shouted Abbi. "Stop that!"

The furry, white puppy was scratching at the farmhouse door.

Abbi picked up the pet she'd been given as a Christmas present three days before.

"You're just like a little polar bear," she said and hugged the wriggling puppy.

"Justin, I'm going to take Polar out for a run.

Will you and Rory come with me?"

Justin was Abbi's older brother. He and their cousin Rory were sitting with their feet up against the kitchen stove. They were looking at computer magazines.

"It's snowing out there," Justin told her.

"But Polar wants a run," said Abbi. "I know we told Mum and Dad that we'd stay in until they got back from their shopping trip, but Polar wants to go out now. Please come with me, Justin, please."

"OK, Abbi, OK," said Justin.
