Rock legends The Who are back after 22 years with two new releases and plans for an album, says the group's lead singer, 60-year-old Roger Daltrey. .
The album of new material will be recorded this year after The Who complete a world tour, which takes in Australia in July.
Daltrey says one of the songs, Old Red Wine, was written by guitarist Pete Townshend, 59, as a tribute to bassist John Entwistle, who died in 2002, and to drummer Keith Moon, who died in 1978.
"Why can't rock music be about growing old?" Daltrey asks. "I believe Townshend is the only person in rock'n'roll who can write about that path from middle to old age."
He says the legendary group, who produced some of the greatest singles of the 1960s and invented rock opera, are planning the release soon of a compilation album, to be titled Then and Now.
