Who's connected
VIP guest Jason Campbell is wired to the world, sitting at the runway tapping into his Mac-top. The trend forecaster, who puts out the JC Report internet newsletter and provides wardrobe advice for a clientele including America's NFL, is a stylish dresser and a friendly guy. But as to what he thinks of what's on show, it's too early in the week to pass judgment. Local scribblers were impressed with him bypassing a notebook and pen.
From cheered to cheerleader
Trelise Cooper, whose two shows last night had the wow factor, is supporting WoW for real. That's the World of Wearable Arts awards in Wellington, where she is flying at week's end to see the work of three of her multi-talented design team. Andrew Trott, Rodney Leong and Tracey Smith, and her partner Chris Koole, all have entries in the annual event. "I am delighted that this is their way of being acknowledged for their individual, creative talent," she says.
From backstage to centrestage
One of the youngest designers is Alissa Serdoun, 23, who will show her range today. The Russian-born Aucklander got her first taste of FW as a backstage dresser back in 2001. A model no-show meant she was called on to the catwalk. Looking back, she's grateful for the knowledge. She says her Serdoun Couture line is inspired by Lauren Bacall and a family heritage in textiles and shoe design.
The ink's not dry
The Herald Inkroom is one of the hot places to take time out for some bubbles at Fashion Week, with the boys from George FM on the music deck plus complimentary pampering for invited guests from Napoleon, Servilles, OPI and Guinot. Welcome along was TV presenter Petra Bagust and her mother Judy, other celebrities and designers. Telecom and Air NZ are also hosting corporate clients.
