Bernadette pushed away the lock of red hair that had fallen over her eyes and flipped the pancake sizzling in the pan. She looked over at her brother, sprawled across the bunk opposite the cramped galley.
"Stop reading that book and help me cook the pancakes," she said crossly.
"I'm busy." David continued reading.
"Mum and Dad will be back soon. You were supposed to go ashore with Louise, and now you're just lying around. I'm going to tell them you haven't been helping!"
David sighed as he put down the book and dragged himself over to the gas stove. It was tough having an older sister, especially one as bossy as Bernadette.
"How does madam like her pancakes?" he asked, bowing, then lifting the golden pancake out of the pan and placing it on top of the finished stack with an exaggerated flourish.
