By LINDA MCNABB
There was a mix of elves and dwarves in Mr Blyne's circus, and Kimi, the tame dragon. Usually dragons were wild and lived far to the south in the huge desert beyond Elfland. They preferred to keep to themselves and were rarely seen.
Jac was the puppet master, which meant he made the puppets and ran the puppet shows for Mr Blyne's circus. Here in Dwarfland he was considered a freak, since he was over five feet, even though he was only twelve, and still growing. Danel was a good head shorter than Jac, which wasn't surprising, since he was part dwarf, but he was stoutly built and stronger than he looked. He needed to be - he was in the trapeze act with his sisters, Becky and Rosy.
The boys saw the rider pass the circus wagons without pausing, kicking up great clouds of dust. Jac knew they hadn't seen the last of him; he couldn't say how he knew, but he did.
