Jac threw the armload of branches into the back of the wagon and climbed up onto the driving seat next to Danel. He flicked the reins and the sturdy old horse trotted towards the line of wagons in the distance. The circus didn't wait for those on punishment duty, as a day without a show meant a day without gems coming in.

'Not much there, Jac.' Danel slouched against the low wooden board separating them from the branches.

'Blyne'll be angry.'

'It's hard to find wood if there aren't many trees,' Jac replied, looking around the barren landscape.
