By CAROL KRUEGER
Deveau and Wright reported back to a worried Captain Morehouse. He knew the captain of the Mary Celeste - they were friends.
"Three of us could sail the Mary Celeste back to port," said Deveau. "I know we could do it - and, don't forget, she's an abandoned ship!"
Captain Morehouse knew what that meant. When a wrecked or abandoned ship was brought in, those who returned it would receive a reward - salvage money.
"We'll do it!" said Captain Morehouse.
On December 13, they sailed into Gibraltar. They had no idea that there was more trouble ahead of them. They also didn't know that they were about to become key figures in one of the world's greatest mysteries.
