When she explained the situation to Thurston, his eyes widened in alarm. "They can't give Prince away!" He grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl and a banana for Natty. They took them outside and sprawled out on the grass.
"Maybe the wind blew the stuff into her garden," Thurston suggested.
Natty rolled onto her back and looked up into the still leaves on the maple tree. "There's just one problem," she said. "We haven't had any wind for days." A lone crow flew from the tree, cawing into the clear blue sky.
"Well," said Thurston, "a cat might fit through that fence."
"Maybe," Natty said, "but there aren't any cats in the neighbourhood. I really think that we need to start from the other end of the mystery."
