By PHILIP TEMPLE, Illustrator CHRIS GASKIN
Every kind of bird lived in that one enormous forest. The birds all looked different. But they all spoke the same language and lived happily together. There were parrots coloured like the rainbow. There were moas whose legs were as thick as tree-trunks and whose heads stuck out from the highest branches. There were fantails so big that they could catch dragonflies. All the ducks flew with their feet. And Krikta the kea and his friends were always playing practical jokes on the others.
