To begin with, they passed through places Tom knew well. These were places he'd been to with his father - the village, the church, the field where the Harvest Fair was held each year.
Soon they were travelling through countryside Tom had only ever seen from far off.
Tom turned in the saddle and could no longer see the Manor House, though he could still make out the very top of the church tower, poking above the trees.
"We'll be coming to Gressingham Forest soon, Master Tom," said Able. "There be outlaws in that place, so say not a word and hold on tight, for we may have to make a quick escape."
Tom felt both fear and excitement. They'd been gone less than a day and already he was in the middle of an adventure!
