By LINDA McNABB
The chill of the ground on his bare feet brought him back to the task ahead and he looked out at the snowcovered fields. Rubbing his arms to warm them, he climbed the small wooden fence and headed out to get the houses for the second time today.
His coldness was overtaken by his anger as he ran himself hard chasing the horses back into the pen. Normally it took an hour to round them up but he was so fired up he did it in half the time, slamming the gate shut and moving them into the stables. He shook the snow from his short-cropped, sandy-brown hair, feeling the coldness seep into his head.
Toby's first thought had been to go and find Steffan and make him pay. But now, his anger spent by chasing the horses, Toby changed his mind. Aggie didn't like him to fight. It didn't help that he was small for his age and looked far younger than twelve. It only made it worse when he was picked on by bigger lads and them beat them easily.
