You can very rarely ever go wrong with a monochromatic look. People might say it's boring to wear black all the time but there's a reason why it's done - it's easy, slimming, goes with pretty much everything. It looks good. White is almost the same (minus the slimming, maybe a little less easy). In my opinion, an all white look is very chic if you've got the confidence to actually do it.
So basically what I'm trying to say, is that it's unsurprising that I've seen a lot of all black, all white or black and white combination outfits on the streets of Auckland in the past month. The lack of colour keeps things classic, but it doesn't have to be boring - think about textures whilst keeping it simple - exhibited in the gallery below by the off-white/cream knit on Sarah paired with the leather and the varying degrees of sheer on Rosie and Petrina. Another way to create interest is with black and white patterns - stripes are easy (seen on Monica), as are polka dots. I love the grid-like check on Josie.
If that's not enough and you want to shake up the look without straying too far from the monochrome, I suggest a bit of colour on the lips or nails, or tortoiseshell accessories (sunglasses, hair clips, etc), or some silver or gold jewellery.
