Edible Ellerslie
Food is on offer, as well as flowers, at the Ellerslie Flower Show next week. Keen gardeners will be able to check out garden displays including coffee and tea plants, pepinos and Japanese raisin trees, and get advice on how to grow the likes of blueberries and figs in pots. Healthy eating displays and speakers will also feature. The show is from November 16-20 at the Auckland Botanic Gardens, Manukau. Book through Ticketek or at Foodtown or Woolworths branches.
Tea with a twist
Twinings has developed a range of zesty green teas for lighter drinking in warmer weather. The teamaker has twinned its classic Earl Grey flavour of bergamot orange with green tea for added antioxidants and extra refreshment. Then, for citrus cool, there is Green Tea Orange and Mandarin. Available in supermarkets, $3.59.
Coeliac sweetener
Healtheries has launched some tasty new treats to appeal to sweet-toothed coeliacs and wheat avoiders. Puddings and biscuits are often off the menu for coeliacs, but these products from the Simple range are wheat and gluten free. The microwave Steamed Pudding comes in golden syrup or chocolate fudge flavours, and is $3.99 for a twin pack. Simple Choc Chip Cookies follow on from the Simple range's Lemon and Lime Shortbread. $3.69 for 100g.
Well brewed
Choysa is celebrating its 100th year. The tea was first introduced to New Zealand by Auckland's Bond brothers in 1905. Choysa wants to write a history and is asking for help from anyone with memorabilia, photographs or information. Send them to Choysa Tea History, Private Bag 99919, Newmarket, Auckland, and be in to win prizes.
