A fine drop
We all know that all water is equal, but some is more equal than others! Well, that appears to be the case with Te Waihou Reserve - the latest release of New Zealand water, sourced from the Blue Spring near Putaruru, to hit the shops. It comes in an elegant wine-style bottle, and the sparkling variety is wonderfully crisp and bubbly. Indeed, call it Champagne for teetotallers. $9 for 1 litre, available at fine dining restaurants nationwide.
Vintners' lunch
Now here's a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Twelve leading Auckland restaurants are getting together to create a menu of 12 dishes which will be matched with wines from 12 prominent New Zealand wineries. The 450 guests arrive at 11am, when they receive a glass of bubbles and canapes, before spending the rest of the afternoon wining and dining their way through the 12 courses. Food and wine critic Vic Williams is the host for the day, along with Allyson Gofton. There will be an auction and, best of all, it's all to help raise money for the North Shore Hospice. The restaurants taking part include Dine by Peter Gordon, Harbourside Seafood Bar & Grill, Number 5 and Chow, while the wines will be coming from the likes of Waiheke's Goldwater Estate and Te Motu Vineyard, Kumeu River, Gem Wines and Matua Valley Wines who are responsible for bringing this style of event to New Zealand. At the end of the day, diners get to vote for the winning restaurant and winery combination.
